Yes I know I have not updated here for some time, I am a terrible blogger I hear you say, its just I have in my mind to start a better independant blog, but have not found the time as of yet, studio time keeps me very busy.  But hey coming soon to a place near you a brand new blog :D  I will keep you updated.  Answering a few emails here, The 'Ragdoll' collection  of statement necklaces and other jewellery is under 'Ragdoll' on my website, as you have been emailing me saying you can't find it...

Hugs from an overworked Katherine  :)

What glorious weather we are having my heart is turning to Spring so expect lots of spring like designs, colour, colour, colour…

After quite a few ‘can these been re-created emails’ I have gone through my website and put a little note on sold items that can be recreated, just email me if you would like a design especially made for you.  Please do remember there will be slight differences (as with all my pieces) due to the nature of antique/vintage ware, all will be very beautiful and still carry the original theme and colour scheme…

Still exhibiting/selling in Knightsbridge and Covent Garden although I have slowed down a bit now, I have nearly sold out so need to get recreating…

I want to say a special big thank you to all my customers, many have been repeat customers over the years and they are The Vanilla Rooms VIP gang (smiling) I love them all.  And lots of new repeat customers of late thank you so much, I do so love having you here, and a big hello and welcome to a few new customers, always welcome here too…

Big hugs…

Happy New Year to everyone  :D

Friday 26th December 2008

Rushing in to update my Boxing Day sales items, these are all very beautiful and designed to adorn, not to sit on shelves, have a peek, some great prices here  :D

Wednesday 24th December 2008

Well I am rushing in amongst all the festival preparations (I am a slave to the cooker), the last of the presents have been wrapped, and the neighbours cards delivered, and now I can sit down and wish you all “A Very Merry Christmas and A Happy Healthy New Year”…

Christmas and New Year is always a time for contemplation and as I contemplate how blessed I am to have you along with me as customers and indeed many of you as repeat customers, old and new. I never forget without you I would not be doing what I love, you are never too much trouble to me and I so love hearing from you and count many of you as dear friends…

I am well aware that the monetary situation has hit us all hard this year (after I had record sales in July and August, which was wonderful).  Now understandably sales are down for us all, I always look to the High Street as my business will normally reflect what is going on there, but I was pleasantly surprised my sales have not been hit as hard as the High Street and my commission work is considerably up.  Perhaps now more then ever is a time when people what good value for their money, care love and attention in the making of the goods they buy and VIP treatment when they do buy, this is what The Vanilla Room has always prided itself on star treatment for you…

I don’t want to soap box it (well maybe just shout it a little bit), as I have had such a stressful November and December dealing with big companies and authorities, or not dealing with them as the case maybe. Friends and family have also reported the same horror stories, countless hours and hours spent on telephones talking to machines, unhelpful staff and call centres in India who don’t have the right information for you and need to pass you back to the Uk…

Our stress as a nation is running at an all time high and no wonder.  When I hit the big times guys (day dreaming a little here hee hee) I will never treat my customers that way, if anyone is spending money they deserve the very best of me and any of my staff as I have the responsibility of the people I employ.  Now I am not talking here of one or two errors which can always happen how ever careful you are, but the epidemic that is spreading in our country called very bad service (Katherine climbs off of the soap box and eats a mince pie)  :D

Hmmmm some news now :) the exhibition/sales I have been showing for The White Rooms at two top London venues, The Sheraton Hotel, Knightsbridge and The Royal Garden Hotel, Covent Garden, has been going very well, they have slowed down a bit now, it has been fun, I always sell very well in the flesh so to speak, trying to take good photos and get them on the web is a bit of an ordeal(I hope to post some photos soon)...

There are some more exhibitions coming up in the New Year, I will let you know when I have more news.

I am not able to have big sales as the high street does, because my work is cut to the bone no big mark ups of 100% to 200% on my art, I suspect many other jewellery designers/artist will back me up here.  I will be adding a few pieces to my Sale Section, as these deserve to adorn rather then sitting at the back of the shelves, so keep an eye out Boxing Day…

Bye for now everyone, tuck into that turkey roast and sip what ever your tipple is and try to look cool in that paper hat hee hee  :D

Monday 12th May 2008

‘The White Collection’ has been listed with more coming soon, Katherine I hear you say The White Collection is not White!!!  hee hee I know this but I wanted to design some jewellery with pure form, simplicity, urban organic and esoteric by nature and to give it a simple collective name so here is ‘The White Collection’...

The individual names of each piece were plucked from one of my favourite customers emails to me, her emails are always a pleasure to receive, her writings, musings and descriptive so real you are instantly transported to that place in her story, so Veronica of Washington its time to take a bow...

I am hoping one day she might write a little piece for this newsy blog...

You will also notice (or you might not)  a darling little widget thingy (my technical name for it) on the right hand side of my website (you will need to scroll down) this little instant messenger will show you when I am online send me an instant message, ask me anything you like,  if you want further info on a piece of jewellery listed please do ask, or if you just want to chat I would love to hear from you (besides I have not tried it out yet), who is going to be first?

I have been asked several times of late about sold pieces and can they be replicated, the answer is yes and no, every design is an individual but some of them can be repeated they will not be exactly the same, but still very beautiful and I will stay within the same design and colour theme, another favourite customer of mine Stacey has suggested and I feel it is a good suggestion that I have a gallery of past works on this website, this I am going to do with some of the past designs that you could have recreated for you, although please realise they won’t be identical.  So it’s Stacey’s time to take a bow as well...

To start churning out identical designs would be a nightmare for me and all my artistic creativity would be gone.  I have turned down several offers of wholesale work in the past although I could see they would be bread and butter work I did not fancy turning into a jewellery factory outlet, eeek we have enough of those already...

I am in the process of writing an interesting article for this newsy blog on how to really wear your jewellery so I do hope it will be finished soon and posted, although it might change format yet it’s still very embryonic at this stage...

Wednesday 2nd of April 2008

Hello everyone I hope you are all enjoying this glorious day as much as I am. The sun always cheers everything up and I have beautiful deep yellow primroses just made an appearance in the garden and they are super lovely, so super lovely I am designing a ‘Primrose’ bracelet, primroses are just so spring, although I do believe snow is predicted for some parts of the country over the weekend and it is going to turn colder brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…

I have a new customer Joy and what a joy she is and she took a chance and bought ‘Rambling Rose Fairy’ even though I had still not got round to putting the description up on my website (see last blog), I have been somewhat behind since this nasty cough/chest virus, I am feeling at least 70% better now so am on the mend.  I hastily archived the description and posted it for her and got such a lovely written email back from her this morning I asked if I could re-print it here, Joy writes so beautifully straight from the heart and along with Joy being joy, the sun and my yellow primroses I thought now does this not make life worth while, the little treasures that people and nature bring…

Joy’s email below…

Hello Katherine,

The bracelet has arrived and it is Absolutely Beautiful I really am so
pleased, I love the glass flowers with the dew drops and your Rambling
Rose fairy charm is gorgeous, your description of The French Châteaux
fits it perfectly, it is a truly is magical piece of work,  you are a
very talented lady and I shall treasure it.

Thank you so much

Joy xx

Wonderful news guess who bought the first Katherine Cooper's interpretation of Gary Bunt's famous collection of paintings The Love Catchers, non other then Gary Bunt himself, am I thrilled I think I am...

More exiting news on Gary Bunt soon.  More of The Love Catchers jewellery being listed by the end of December beginning of January, a jewellery design statement must have...

Tuesday 7th December 2007 – From The Desk Of Katherine Cooper… Jewellery meets Art or is it Art meets Jewellery, exciting news!!!  I have been most fortunate and consider it such an honour to being invited to have the cache as sole designer to interpret Gary Bunts famous paintings ‘The Love Catchers’ into art jewellery form.  Gary is represented by Nicholas Bowlby and you can find him on the Nicholas Bowlby website www.nicholasbowlby.co.uk.  Gary also exhibits at a top Mayfair, London art gallery and various other prestigious places and sells out within days…

I am a huge fan of Gary’s work it appeals to my inner child when all things were so uncomplicated in life, it allows me to look at his paintings through my child’s eyes, and it captures for me innocence, purity, honesty.

Gary’s paintings to me represent the rural ‘Garden Of England’ Kent where in the old days everything was green and feelings were felt in a more simplistic way, life is oh so more uncomplicated through the eyes of a child.  Even love is uncomplicated in Gary’s the artist eyes and ‘The Love Catchers’ has a simple purity of what love can be like.  Gary has been able to bring his own understanding of God and Jesus through in his paintings also in a whimsical antidotal way which I love…

So excited am I to be able to design representational work in art jewellery form of Gary’s ‘The Love Catches’ it has so taken me  back to designing with a childhood innocence of love.  I really hope you love my interpretation of Gary’s art works and I hope I have done them justice; I have so loved creating them. I am previewing the first one of my designs below and my interpretation of the piece, first a bit of history on Gary and a couple of images of his paintings…

Nicholas Bowlby writes "It has been a year since Gary had his first one man show in London.  Those twelve months have seen Gary continue to paint with a passion and a commitment that underline each of these new paintings.  The mischief and fun are still very much there, but there are now more images of contemplation.  The dogs still strut their stuff, the winds still blow, the Downs roll, beaches stretch for miles, fishermen in orange sou'westers prepare for sea, the potting shed as fecund as ever, washing lines sag with the weight of undies, and Jesus still turns up for tea. It is a world each one of us recognises but its Gary's talent that brings it to life before us, and provokes us to laugh and comment in surprised and delightful recognition".

Here is my very first design preview in the collection of ‘The Love Catches’ hopefully all finished in time for Valentines Day which is very appropriate to do justice to Gary Bunts wonderful paintings, Gary Bunt for Valentines Day…

My Inspiration was not anyone painting of Gary’s ‘The Love catchers’ but to encompass the whole of them in this very first design.  As I gathered the materials for this design I was unconsciously drawn to some things 60’s and early 70’s which I after realized that this was Gary’s rock and roll heyday which must have been a big influences on his art of today…

A pallet of different ruby red glass hearts and flowers dance mischievously with snow white glass pearl clusters, focals of large ruby red and deep raspberry pink artist made lamp work glass hearts, lots of beautiful highly polished rounds of pink rose quartz (the gem stone for love).  Vintage 60’s ruby red glass entwined with raspberry pink glass lilies hand wired with little vintage 50’s sparkling deep rose pink Swarovski crystal droplet charms. Ruby red acrylic flowers in a translucent red and an opaque red hand wired with twinkling ruby red glass crystal and snowy white freshwater pearls.  Very rare Art deco lucite red and black rose beads...

The vintage love charms are as follows a vintage Victorian locket in old patina brass etched monogrammed to the back and a beautiful hand painted French rose enamel design to the front.  A vintage 60’s old brass charm with the words LOVE etched on it, a vintage 70’s religious charm of the psalm no. 4 “Remember the Sabbath day to keep holy” (an influence for Gary’s religion).  A vintage whimsical Edwardian brass heart with wonderful patina which says “He who holds the key can unlock my heart”.

Vintage Art Deco brass flower cup charms with emerald green glass insets, a beautiful vintage Victorian brass dove charm holding a love letter in its beak.  Vintage 60’s brass swallows in flight hand wired with little red glass crystal.  Clusters of little red glass hearts inset with vintage petite black French glass jet beads.  Some more clusters of snowy white freshwater pearls.
To complete the design I have used a little dog charm embedded with sparkling pink crystal (an acknowledgement to there almost always being a little dog in Gary’s paintings).

Please see more images of 'The Love catchers' in my New Collections category...

Sunday 2nd December 2007 - From The Desk Of Katherine Cooper…words at last!!! I have to apologise for the late coming of this newsy blog I have been so busy working my way around the finer intricacies of this website and filling my shelves so to speak that this blog has taken a bit of a back seat…

The idea for this blog came to me whilst pondering how impersonal the web can be, after many years of having visitors to my studio and getting to know them face to face the internet seemed a strange isolating media for me, having used the internet to trade for the last two years has allowed me to see it has a different form of communication and is not as impersonal as I first thought…

Why ‘From The Desk Of Katherine Cooper’ tongue in cheek as I spent many a torturous day to weeks bum glued to this office chair a slave to this desk whilst staring at a screen bashing away at keys whilst witnessing the birth of this website, exciting now pure agony for me then, as I am at my most happiest sitting in my studio creating…

This is the place to peruse for all the latest Katherine Cooper updates, news, fashion snippets and antidotal tales, insightful discussions, photos and anything else I or you can think of, please do send me your newsy bits or photos as I love to hear from you…

I will be having a launch party at a later date but where, when and how is still to be decided perhaps when I become more human again and have lost my square computer eyes. So sorry my website is not listed full to capacity at the moment I am busy beavering away behind the scenes...

I am sharing with you my very first Katherine Cooper website customer who was a previous internet customer of mine who came in to do some virtual shopping for Christmas presents, I was so excited to find her there if it had not been virtual I would have been running for a bottle of  wine and the brie.  She has kindly penned a piece of writing which nicely allays anyone’s fears about shopping with me, she also has a very talented musician son and his band so I will include their website if you would like to have a peek…

Amanda says “Katherine thank you; your site has made my Christmas gift shopping easy. Your designs are beautiful, unique and affordable; you are also a charming lady to buy from. Your site has masses of pictures and information and that you answered within hours the one question I had was very considerate. Web shopping is brilliant but it is reassuring to know there is a person who cares out there! I am so glad I found The Vanilla Room”

“Dom is still doing his music; you can hear his new songs on
www.myspace.com/thejackstunes
He is recording again next week. There is a big gig in London 13th December. If you know anyone who would like to come tickets are on a link from myspace”.

Come to think of it must ask Amanda if Dom would like to include more info and history about his band so I can report it here for you…

Some very exciting collaboration news coming soon hopefully I will be able to pen it for you in about 3 or 4 days time. Lots more news coming this way and let me hear yours, bye for now Katherine  xx
